Notes: Tuesday, February 11-Monday, March 17, 2014 (part 2 of 2)

13. On Tuesday, December 31, 2013, it was notified that H.M. The Queen had appointed Lords Home (pron. the same as when that name is spelt 'Hume') and Smith Knights Brethren of the Thistle.

See Supplement No. 1, category "State", sub-category "Honours and Awards New Year Honours List", The London Gazette, Issue No. 60728, p. N1, Monday, December 30, 2013 (but the appointments are to be dated St. Andrew's Day, 2013):

(Those appointments came to my attention during a visit to Wikipedia after reading in the Court Circular that the Thistle Badge and Star of the late Sir Garth Morrison K.T. C.B.E. D.L. had been delivered up. Presumably the reason for the appointments not being announced on St. Andrew's Day, 2013 was the fatal helicopter crash in Glasgow on that date.)

14. Mr. Webster on recent efforts by certain Australian sport organisations to combat opposition to Gaiety

See the sports opinion piece "Cricket Australia still stumped by homophobia", by Mr. Andrew Webster, dated March 14, 2014, downloaded from The Sydney Morning Herald's website:

(That opinion piece came to my attention via the version published under the headline "'Not out': Cricket baulks at gay code", by the same author, on p. 70 in the "WeekendSport[ sic]" pages of The Sydney Morning Herald, weekend edition, March 15-16, 2014, Issue 55047, ISSN 0312-6315.)
